I was just wondering:
Everyone knows that there have been significant problems with quality control in the manufacture of heparin, especially in foreign plants (be certain: there have been problems in the past with US manufacture as well).
I am the only person who wonders whether the epidemic of HIT for the past decade or so might be in part a consequence of lax quality control in the manufacture of heparin? Will it subside with additional scrutiny of its' manufacturing?
Answers:
Almost certainly not.
Maybe.
The problem with Chinese manufacture of heparin quality control, is first, the inspectors have to prewarn the factories being inspected in China they are coming so there are no authentic checks without preparation, second, the translators are supplied by China and sometimes just answer the questions instead of the manufacturer, third, the inspectors going to China have to volunteer for the job and there is no budget for Chinese translators, and four, we can't afford Heparin made in the US. lol.
